An Act to amend the Criminal Injuries Compensation Act 1963
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Criminal Injuries Compensation Amendment Act 1971, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Act 1963 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Interpretation
(1)
Section 2 of the principal Act is hereby amended by inserting in subsection (1), after the definition of the term “relative”
, the following definition:
“‘Spouse’, in respect of a victim, includes a former spouse:

The amendment made by subsection (1) of this section shall apply with respect to any application for compensation made to the Tribunal, and not determined, before the passing of this Act, as well as to any application made after the passing of this Act, in respect of the death of a victim resulting from an act or omission that occurred before or after the passing of this Act.
This Act is administered in the Department of Justice.
