An Act to amend the Government Railways Act 1949
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Government Railways Amendment Act 1972, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Government Railways Act 1949 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Regulations
Section 120 of the principal Act is hereby amended by inserting in subsection (1), after paragraph (c), the following paragraph:
“(ca)
Providing for the special medical examination of every engine driver, locomotive assistant, and locomotive trainee in any case where it is considered by the General Manager to be necessary in the interests of public safety, and for the exclusion from driving or associated duties of any such employee who is found, whether as a result of the examination or otherwise, to be for any reason unfit for such duties or who refuses or neglects to submit to the examination:”.
3 National Union of Railwaymen of New Zealand
The principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from—
(a)
The definition of the expression “service organisation”
in section 2; and
(b)
Subsection (1) of section 83d (as inserted by section 4(1) of the Government Railways Amendment Act 1967); and
(c)
Paragraph (f) of subsection (1) of section 120d (as inserted by section 2 of the Government Railways Amendment Act 1971)—
the words “the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants”
, and substituting in each case the words “the National Union of Railwaymen of New Zealand”
.
This Act is administered by the New Zealand Government Railways.
