An Act to amend the Town and Country Planning Act 1953
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Town and Country Planning Amendment Act 1973, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Town and Country Planning Act 1953 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Matters of national importance
The principal Act is hereby amended by inserting, after section 2a (as inserted by section 3 of the Town and Country Planning Amendment Act 1957) the following section:
“2b
The following matters are declared to be of national importance and shall be recognised and provided for in the preparation, implementation, and administration of regional and district schemes:
“(a)
The preservation of the natural character of the coastal environment and of the margins of lakes and rivers and the protection of them from unnecessary subdivision and development:
“(b)
The avoidance of encroachment of urban development on, and the protection of, land having a high actual or potential value for the production of food:
“(c)
The prevention of sporadic urban subdivision and development in rural areas.”
This Act is administered in the Ministry of Works.
