An Act to amend the Defamation Act 1954
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Defamation Amendment Act 1974, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Defamation Act 1954 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Qualified privilege for certain reports
The principal Act is hereby amended by inserting in Part II of the First Schedule, after paragraph 10, the following paragraph:
“10a
A fair and accurate report of the proceedings, or of the result of the proceedings, in any inquiry held in accordance with the rules of any association formed for the purpose of promoting and safeguarding the standards of the New Zealand press.”
This Act is administered in the Department of Justice.
