An Act to amend the Small Claims Tribunals Act 1976
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title and commencement
(1)
This Act may be cited as the Small Claims Tribunals Amendment Act 1979, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Small Claims Tribunals Act 1976.
(2)
This Act shall come into force on the 1st day of April 1980.
2 Times and places of sittings
The principal Act is hereby amended by repealing section 6, and substituting the following section:
“6
The days, times, and places of the regular sittings of a Tribunal shall be determined by the Chief District Court Judge.”
3 Indemnity to Referee
Section 41 of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing subsection (1), and substituting the following subsection:
“(1)
A Referee, in the performance of his duties under this Act, shall have and enjoy the same protection as a Justice of the Peace acting in his criminal jurisdiction has and enjoys under Part VII of the Summary Proceedings Act 1957.”
This Act is administered in the Department of Justice.
