An Act to amend the Citizenship Act 1977
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Citizenship Amendment Act 1979, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Citizenship Act 1977 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 New form of oath of allegiance substituted
The principal Act is hereby amended by repealing the First Schedule, and substituting the First Schedule set out in the Schedule to this Act.

“First Schedule—Oath of Allegiance
Section 11
I, [Full name], swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her [or His] Majesty [Specify the name of the reigning Sovereign, as thus: Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of New Zealand,] Her [or His] heirs and successors, according to law, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of New Zealand and fulfil my duties as a New Zealand citizen.
So help me God.”
