An Act to amend the Local Authorities (Members’ Interests) Act 1968

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1 Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Local Authorities (Members’ Interests) Amendment Act 1979, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Local Authorities (Members’ Interests) Act 1968 (herein-after referred to as the principal Act).

2 Disqualifying contracts between local authorities and their members

(1)

Section 3(1) of the principal Act (as amended by section 2 of the Local Authorities (Members’ Interests) Amendment Act 1971) is hereby further amended—

(a)

By omitting the expression “$2,000”, and substituting the expression “$5,000”:

(b)

By omitting the expression “$4,000”, and substituting the expression “$10,000”.

(2)

Section 2 of the Local Authorities (Members’ Interests) Amendment Act 1971 is hereby consequentially repealed.

3 Member not to discuss or vote on question in which he has pecuniary interest

Section 6(3) of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing paragraph (a), and substituting the following paragraph:

“(a)

Any payment to or for the benefit of a member where it is legally payable and the amount or maximum amount or the rate or maximum rate of the payment has already been fixed; or”.

This Act is administered in the Department of Internal Affairs.
