An Act to amend the Fire Service Act 1975
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Fire Service Amendment Act 1981, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Fire Service Act 1975 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Establishment of New Zealand Fire Service
Section 3 of the principal Act is hereby amended, as from its commencement, by inserting, after subsection (1), the following subsection:
“(1a)
Notwithstanding subsection (1) of this section, a Fire Commissioner shall, for the purposes of the payment of a gratuity in accordance with section 55 of this Act on his death or retirement or the granting of any long service leave which may from time to time be granted to members of the Fire Service, be deemed to be a member of the Fire Service, and for those purposes and for the purposes of any superannuation scheme provided under section 54 of this Act, service as a Fire Commissioner shall be deemed to be service as a member of the Fire Service.”
