Contents
An Act to amend the Transport Act 1962 by increasing certain fees payable under that Act
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Transport Amendment Act 1982 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Transport Act 1962 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Motor vehicle change of ownership fee
Section 18(7) of the principal Act (as amended by section 2 of the Transport Amendment Act 1977) is hereby amended by omitting the expression “A fee of $10”
, and substituting the words “The appropriate fee prescribed in Part III of the First Schedule to this Act”
.
3 Motor vehicle registration fees and annual licence fees
The principal Act is hereby amended by repealing the First Schedule (as substituted by section 3(1) of the Transport Amendment Act 1977), and substituting the First Schedule set out in the Schedule to this Act.
4 Savings in respect of year ending with 30 June 1982
Notwithstanding sections 2 and 3 of this Act, the registration fees and annual licence fees payable in respect of the licensing year ending with the 30th day of June 1982, and the fee for the endorsement of change of ownership particulars payable during the period ending with the 30th day of June 1982, shall be the fees that would have been payable if those sections had not been passed.

For the purposes of this Part of this Schedule, the term ‘total piston displacement’, in relation to the motor of any motor vehicle, means—
(a)
The total piston displacement as specified by the manufacturer, in any case where that displacement has been specified by the manufacturer in cubic centimetres and the motor has not subsequently been modified in relation to its piston displacement:
(b)
The total piston displacement as specified by the manufacturer multiplied by 16.39, in any case where that displacement has been specified by the manufacturer in cubic inches and the motor has not subsequently been modified in relation to its piston displacement:
(c)
The total piston displacement as determined by the Secretary in any other case.
Nothing in clauses 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 of this Part of this Schedule shall apply with respect to any motor vehicle to which clause 1 of this Part applies.
Part II Annual Licence Fees
