An Act to amend the Kitchener Memorial Scholarship Trust Act 1941

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1 Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Kitchener Memorial Scholarship Trust Amendment Act 1983, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Kitchener Memorial Scholarship Trust Act 1941 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

2 Classes of persons to whom scholarships may be awarded

Section 6(1) of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the word “sons”, in both places where it occurs, and substituting, in each case, the word “children”.

3 Scholarships to be held at university providing higher education in agriculture

(1)

Section 7 of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing subsection (1), and substituting the following subsection:

“(1)

Every scholarship awarded under this Act shall be held at a university (within the meaning of the Universities Act 1961) providing higher education in subjects relating to agriculture.”

(2)

Subsection (2) of the said section 7 is hereby consequentially amended by omitting the word “college”, in both places where it occurs, and substituting, in each case, the word “university”.

This Act is administered in the Department of Education.
