An Act to amend the Electoral Act 1956
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Electoral Amendment Act 1986, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Electoral Act 1956 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Maori representation
Section 23 of the principal Act (as substituted by section 8(1) of the Electoral Amendment Act 1981) is hereby amended by repealing subsection (8), and substituting the following subsection:
“(8)
The Commission shall in every case within 6 months after the date of the meeting of the Commission called pursuant to section 16(3) of this Act report the boundaries fixed by it in respect of the Maori electoral districts to the Governor-General, who shall proclaim them in the Gazette.”
This Act is administered in the Department of Justice.
