An Act to amend the Arms Act 1983

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of New Zealand as follows:

1 Short Title and commencement

(1)

This Act may be cited as the Arms Amendment Act 1987, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Arms Act 1983 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

(2)

This Act shall come into force on the 1st day of August 1987.

2 Maximum penalties increased

(1)

Section 45(1) of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the words “summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months or to a fine not exceeding $1,000”, and substituting the words “conviction on indictment to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to a fine not exceeding $4,000”.

(2)

Section 46(1) of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the words “summary conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months or to a fine not exceeding $1,000”, and substituting the words “conviction on indictment to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to a fine not exceeding $4,000”.

This Act is administered in the Police Department.
