An Act to amend the Race Relations Act 1971
BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of New Zealand as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Race Relations Amendment Act 1989, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Race Relations Act 1971 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Racial disharmony
(1)
The principal Act is hereby amended by repealing section 9a and the heading above that section (as inserted by section 86 of the Human Rights Commission Act 1977).
(2)
The Human Rights Commission Act 1977 is hereby consequentially amended by repealing so much of the First Schedule as relates to section 9a of the principal Act and the heading above that section.
3 Remuneration and administrative expenses
Section 31 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from subsection (1), and also from subsection (2), the words “Minister of Finance”
, and substituting the words in each case “Minister of State Services”
.
This Act is administered in the Department of Justice.
