Note
This order is administered in the Ministry of Transport.
PURSUANT to sections 1(2) and 221 of the Maritime Transport Act 1994, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, makes the following order.
1 Title
This order may be cited as the Maritime Transport Act Commencement Order 1998.
2 Commencement of certain provisions of Maritime Transport Act 1994
The following provisions of the Maritime Transport Act 1994 come into force on 20 August 1998:
(b) Parts XIX to XXI:

Explanatory note
This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This order brings into force, on 20 August 1998, the following provisions of the Maritime Transport Act 1994:
(b) Part 19 (which relates to the protection of the marine environment from harmful substances):
(c) Part 20 (which relates to the protection of the marine environment from hazardous ships, structures, and offshore operations):
(d) Part 21 (which relates to the protection of the marine environment from dumping, incineration, and storing of wastes):
(e) Sections 333 to 341 (which relate to oil pollution levies):
(f) Part 25 (which relates to civil liability for pollution of the marine environment):
(h) Sections 469, 470, 471(2), 472 to 474, 475(2), 476 to 478, 480, 485(2), and 485(4) (which are transitional and savings provisions consequent upon the repeal of the Marine Pollution Act 1974).
