An Act to amend the Social Security Act 1964

BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of New Zealand as follows:

1 Short Title and commencement

(1)

This Act may be cited as the Social Security Amendment Act (No. 2) 1993, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Social Security Act 1964 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

This Act shall come into force on the 1st day of September 1993.

2 Domestic purposes benefit for solo parents

Section 27b(1)(e) of the principal Act (as inserted by section 6(1) of the Social Security Amendment Act 1973) is hereby amended by adding the words “or of his release, following imprisonment, to a habilitation centre (as defined in section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act 1985)”.

3 Forfeiture of benefit during detention in penal institution

Section 76 of the principal Act (as substituted by section 13(1) of the Social Security Amendment Act 1982) is hereby amended by adding the following subsection:

“(6)

For the purposes of this section, a person who is subject to residential conditions under section 107d of the Criminal Justice Act 1985 shall not be considered to be serving a period of imprisonment or detention in a penal institution.”
