The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:
1 Title

(1) This Act is the Maori Purposes Act 1991 Amendment Act 2001.
(2) In this Act, the Maori Purposes Act 1991 is called
“the principal Act”
.
2 Commencement
This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.
3 Wi Pere Trust

(1) Section 2 of the principal Act is amended by inserting, after subsection (6), the following subsection:

“(6A) Despite subsection (5), where the term of office of a trustee expires, that trustee, unless sooner vacating office or being removed from office under subsection (7) or subsection (8), continues to hold office by virtue of the appointment for the expired term until—
“(a) the trustee is reappointed; or
“(b) a successor to the trustee is appointed.”
(2) Section 2(6A) of the principal Act (as inserted by subsection (1) of this section) has effect, and is deemed always to have had effect, in relation to every trustee whose term of office expired before the commencement of this Act as if that subsection had been in force at the expiration of his or her term of office.
