Births, Deaths, and Marriages Registration Amendment Act 2001: repealed, on 15 June 2023, pursuant to section 146 of the Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Relationships Registration Act 2021 (2021 No 57).

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:
1 Title
(1)
This Act is the Births, Deaths, and Marriages Registration Amendment Act 2001.
(2)
In this Act, the Births, Deaths, and Marriages Registration Act 1995 is called “the principal Act”
.
2 Commencement
This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.
3 New section 78A inserted
The principal Act is amended by inserting, after section 78, the following section:
78A Disclosure of birth information, death information, and marriage information to certain specified agencies for certain purposes
(1)
The purpose of this section is to authorise the disclosure of birth information, death information, and marriage information to certain specified agencies for certain purposes.
(2)
The Registrar-General and the chief executive of a specified agency listed in the first column of Schedule 1A may enter into an agreement for the disclosure by the Registrar-General to the chief executive of any information described in the second column of that schedule in relation to the specified agency only for the purpose described in the third column of that schedule in relation to the information.
(3)
An agreement entered into under subsection (2) may be varied by the Registrar-General and the chief executive.
(4)
The Registrar-General may disclose birth information, death information, and marriage information to the chief executive only in accordance with Schedule 1A and an agreement entered into under subsection (2).
(5)
In this section, specified agency has the meaning given to it by section 97 of the Privacy Act 1993.
4 New Schedule 1A inserted
The principal Act is amended by inserting, before Schedule 1, the Schedule 1A set out in the Schedule.
