The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:
1 Title
This Act is the Civil Defence Emergency Management Amendment Act 2017.
2 Commencement
This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.
3 Principal Act
This Act amends the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002 (the principal Act).
4 Schedule 1AA amended
In Schedule 1AA, after clause 7, insert the Part 2 set out in the Schedule of this Act.

Part 2 Provision relating to Civil Defence Emergency Management Amendment Act 2017
8 Continuation of national civil defence emergency management strategy to 2019
Despite section 34(1)(b), the national civil defence emergency management strategy that took effect on 10 January 2008, unless it is earlier amended or replaced, remains current (in effect) until the close of 9 April 2019.
