(1)
The Secretary may establish 1 or more selection committees to—
assess applications for approval to provide legal aid services or specified legal services; and
advise the Secretary of the suitability of those applicants.
(2)
The Secretary—
must appoint a representative from the Ministry as chairperson of the committee; and
must appoint to the committee a lawyer—
from a group of lawyers nominated by the New Zealand Law Society as being suitable for appointment to the committee; and
who the Secretary is satisfied is suitable for appointment and has expertise in the areas of law relevant to the committee’s work; and
may appoint any other suitably qualified people to the committee whom the Secretary thinks fit.
