Māori Purposes Bill (No 2)

Proposed motion to divide Bill into 4 Bills

Hon Parekura Horomia, in Committee, to move as follows:

That the enacting words, clauses 1 and 2, and Part 1 be a separate Bill, and that for the enacting words, clauses 1 and 2, and the Part 1 heading there be substituted the following enacting words and clauses:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

  • This Act is the Maniapoto Maori Trust Board Amendment Act 2008.

2 Commencement

  • This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.

That Part 2 and Schedule 1 be a separate Bill, and that for the Part 2 heading there be substituted the following enacting words and clauses:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

  • This Act is the Maori Trust Boards Amendment Act 2008.

2 Commencement

  • This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.

That Part 3 and Schedules 2 and 3 be a separate Bill, and that for the Part 3 heading there be substituted the following enacting words and clauses:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

  • This Act is the Treaty of Waitangi Amendment Act 2008.

2 Commencement

  • This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.

That Part 4 be a separate Bill, and that for the Part 4 heading there be substituted the following enacting words and clauses:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

  • This Act is—

    • (a) Te Ture Whenua Maori Amendment Act 2008; or

    • (b) the Maori Land Amendment Act 2008.

2 Commencement

  • This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper divides the Maori Purposes Bill (No 2) into the following 4 Bills:

  • the Maniapoto Maori Trust Board Amendment Bill:

  • the Maori Trust Boards Amendment Bill:

  • the Treaty of Waitangi Amendment Bill:

  • Te Ture Whenua Maori Amendment Bill.
