New Zealand–China Free Trade Agreement Bill

Proposed motion to divide Bill into 5 Bills

Hon Phil Goff, in Committee, to move as follows:

That the enacting words, clauses 1 and 2, and Part 1 be a separate Bill, and that for the enacting words, clauses 1 and 2, and the Part 1 heading there be substituted the following enacting words and clauses:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

  • This Act is the Tariff Amendment Act 2008.

2 Commencement

  • This Act comes into force on 1 October 2008.

That Part 2 be a separate Bill, and that for the Part 2 heading there be substituted the following enacting words and clauses:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

  • This Act is the Customs and Excise Amendment Act 2008.

2 Commencement

  • This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.

That Part 3 and the Schedule be a separate Bill, and that for the Part 3 heading there be substituted the following enacting words and clauses:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

  • This Act is the Radiocommunications Amendment Act 2008.

2 Commencement

  • This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.

That Part 4 be a separate Bill, and that for the Part 4 heading there be substituted the following enacting words and clauses:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

  • This Act is the Fair Trading Amendment Act 2008.

2 Commencement

  • This Act comes into force on 1 October 2008.

That Part 5 be a separate Bill, and that for the Part 5 heading there be substituted the following enacting words and clauses:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

  • This Act is the Electricity Amendment Act 2008.

2 Commencement

  • This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper divides the New Zealand–China Free Trade Agreement Bill into the following 5 Bills:

  • Tariff Amendment Bill:

  • Customs and Excise Amendment Bill:

  • Radiocommunications Amendment Bill:

  • Fair Trading Amendment Bill:

  • Electricity Amendment Bill.
