Proposed motion to divide Bill into 2 Bills

Hon Paul Goldsmith, in Committee, to move as follows:

That the enacting words, clauses 1 and 2, Parts 1 to 4, and Schedules 1 to 3 be a separate Bill, and that the enacting words and clauses 1 and 2 be replaced with:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

This Act is the Gangs Act 2024.

2 Commencement

This Act comes into force on 21 November 2024.

That Part 5 and Schedule 4 be a separate Bill, and that the Part 5 heading be replaced with:

The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:

1 Title

This Act is the Sentencing Amendment Act 2024.

2 Commencement

This Act comes into force on 21 November 2024.

Explanatory note

This Amendment Paper divides the Gangs Legislation Amendment Bill into the following 2 Bills:

  • the Gangs Bill:

  • the Sentencing Amendment Bill.
