Proposed motion to divide Bill into 2 Bills
Hon Chris Bishop, in Committee, to move as follows:
That the enacting words, clauses 1 and 2, Parts 1 to 7, and Schedules 1 to 6 be a separate Bill, and that the enacting words and clauses 1 and 2 be replaced with:
The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:
1 Title
This Act is the Parliament Act 2024.
2 Commencement
(1)
This Act comes into force on the day after Royal assent.
(2)
However, the following sections come into force 6 months after Royal assent:
(a)
sections 136 to 139 and 141:
(b)
Part 7.
That Parts 8 to 11 and Schedules 7 and 8 be a separate Bill, and that before the Part 8 heading there be inserted:
The Parliament of New Zealand enacts as follows:
1 Title
This Act is the Parliament (Repeals and Amendments) Act 2024.
2 Commencement
(1)
This Act comes into force on the day after Royal assent.
(2)
However, Part 9 comes into force—
(a)
on a date or dates set by Order in Council; or
(b)
to the extent not brought into force earlier, on the second anniversary of Royal assent.
(3)
See Schedule 7 for the application of Part 8 until the end of the financial year commencing on 1 July 2025 and ending with 30 June 2026.
(4)
An Order in Council made under this section is secondary legislation (see Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019 for publication requirements).
Explanatory note
This Amendment Paper divides the Parliament Bill into the following Bills:

the Parliament (Repeals and Amendments) Bill.
