Freedom Camping Bill
Proposed amendment
Phil Twyford, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 26
To add the following subclause (after line 31 on page 19):
(3) Where the offence has been committed of depositing waste on to the land or interfering with or damaging the land, its flora or fauna, or any structure on the land, and that offence is associated with a particular vehicle that has been identified, any subsequent fine should be levied against the owner of this vehicle, and in the case of rental vehicles, the rental company should deduct the fine from the person renting the vehicle.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Freedom Camping Bill so as to allow for offences such as littering and damaging flora and fauna to be associated with a particular vehicle identified as visiting that site, and for the owner of that vehicle to be liable, except in cases of rental vehicles, when the company can deduct the fine from the person renting the vehicle.
