Chris Hipkins, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Cross-heading above clause 34 and clause 34
Delete the cross-heading above clause 34 and clause 34 (line 1 on page 41 to line 4 on page 42).
Explanatory note
The Education Amendment Bill as currently drafted allows the Crown to enter into a lease arrangement with a third party to enable the construction of an early childhood education centre on property owned by, or leased to, the Crown. The third party may enter into a lease with an early childhood education provider for the continued operation of the centre.
This would allow for property developers to derive a profit from the use of Crown land for the building and leasing of early childhood education (ECE) facilities on school sites. Community owned and operated ECE facilities can already be built and provided on land designated for State education.
This Supplementary Order Paper would remove this proposal.
