Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Bill
Proposed amendments
Catherine Delahunty, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 42A
Afterclause 42A(2)(b) (line 9 on page 42), insert: “; and”
, and also insert:
(c) has the approval of manawhenua hapū.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Bill by ensuring that the manawhenua hapū associated with a site must also approve an archaeologist. Currently the archaeologist is appointed by developers and approved by the Historic Places Trust. The Green Party is suggesting that where a site is of interest to manawhenua hapū, the archaeologist appointment needs the approval of the manawhenua hapū.
