Telecommunications (Development Levy) Amendment Bill
Proposed amendment
Gareth Hughes, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
New clause 3A
After clause 3 (page 1, after line 9), insert:
3A Section 90 amended (Crown use of telecommunications development levy)
After section 90(3), insert:
(4)
The Minister must ensure that any use of the telecommunications development levy for purposes specified in subsection (1)(b) or (d) promotes—
(a)
competition in non-urban telecommunications markets; and
(b)
the diversity of non-urban communities intended to be served by the levy; and
(c)
the range of different technological options that may best serve particular non-urban communities; and
(d)
the rapid pace of technological development.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper ensures that the telecommunications development levy is used to promote competition in non-urban telecommunications markets, as well as promoting community diversity, a range of different technological options to best serve those communities, and the rapid pace of technological development.
