Smoke-free Environments (Tobacco Standardised Packaging) Amendment Bill
Proposed amendment
Barbara Stewart, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 2
Replace clause 2(1) (page 2, lines 6 and 7) with:
(1)
This Act comes into force on a date that is—
(a)
appointed by the Governor-General by Order in Council; and
(b)
no earlier than 12 months after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends clause 2 to provide manufacturers with a realistic timeframe for the transition from branded to standardised packaging stock in order to significantly lessen the burden to comply with new packaging regulations introduced by the Bill.
