Education Amendment Bill
Proposed amendment
Erica Stanford, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 15
In clause 15(2), after new section 292A(4) (page 7, after line 5), insert:
(4A)
A person who commits an offence against subsection (3) will, on conviction, become ineligible to receive free tertiary education from a tertiary education organisation in the future.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Education Amendment Bill. It ensures that those who defraud the free tertiary education system do not get the opportunity to commit this fraud again. The provision of financial assistance and aid to individuals seeking to study at relevant tertiary education providers is a right of those who are deemed eligible under specific criteria. However, the provision of such assistance is a major undertaking for the Government, and false declarations should not be taken lightly. If someone commits false representation, they do not deserve to have the right to fees-free tertiary education in the future.
