Education Amendment Bill
Proposed amendment
Jo Hayes, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 15
In clause 15(2), after new section 292A(4) (page 7, after line 5), insert:
(4A)
A person who commits an offence against subsection (3) will, on conviction, become ineligible to receive a loan interest write-off under section 137 of the Student Loan Scheme Act 2011 for the balance of their student loan.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Education Amendment Bill. It ensures that those who defraud the free tertiary education system do not get the benefit of having an interest-free loan. Any other fines are charged interest, so this should be no different.
