Proposed amendment
Chris Penk, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
New clause 7
After clause 6 (page 4, after line 18), insert:
7 Section 71AA inserted (Requirement for registered parties to have expulsion rules)
After section 71, insert:
71AA Requirement for registered parties to have expulsion rules
Every political party that is for the time being registered under this Part shall ensure that the rules governing membership of the party include provisions around expulsion of members of Parliament under sections 55AAB to 55E.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill. It inserts new clause 7 to enhance public confidence in the electoral system by requiring registered parties to have rules around expulsion of MPs by party leaders.
