Proposed amendment
Simeon Brown, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
New clause 7
After clause 6 (page 4, after line 18), insert:
7 Section 129 amended (By-elections for members representing electoral districts)
After section 129(4), insert:
(5)
If a vacancy has arisen under sections 55(1)(fa) and 55A(3)(b), the notice in the Gazette issued under subsection (1) must include—
(a)
the name of the party leader who issued the notice to the Speaker; and
(b)
the details of the reason for the vacancy as provided in section 55D.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill. It inserts new clause 7 to enhance public confidence in the electoral system by ensuring notices in the Gazette issued under the expulsion provisions must include the name of the party leader who issued the expulsion notice to the Speaker.
