This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Education (Teaching Council of Aotearoa) Amendment Bill. It will ensure that, in the event of an extraordinary vacancy in the Teaching Council within 6 months of the expiry of the vacating member’s term, it is at the discretion of the Minister whether or not to appoint a temporary replacement, irrespective of whether the vacating member was appointed or elected. This will avoid unnecessary costs relating to electing a temporary replacement.
