Proposed amendment

Hon Dr Nick Smith, in Committee, to move the following amendment:

Schedule 1

Replace clause 2 of new Schedule 1AA (page 3, lines 16–28) with:

2 Repeal of section 162 (Death must be within a year and a day)

To avoid doubt, the repeal of section 162 applies to any death that occurs after the Crimes Amendment Act 2019 comes into force.

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper amends the transitional arrangements that relate to the repeal of the year and a day rule to ensure that section 162 does not apply to any death that occurs after this Bill comes into force.
