Canterbury Earthquakes Insurance Tribunal Bill
Proposed amendment
Stuart Smith, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 55
In clause 55(2), replace paragraph (a) (page 29, lines 12 to 14) with:
(a)
only people—
(i)
who, in the Minister’s opinion, are suitable to be appointed as members, taking into account their knowledge, skills, and experience; and
(ii)
that—
(A)
hold a law degree and have had a minimum number of 7 years’ experience in practice; or
(B)
are suitably qualified professionals with arbitration experience, and that do not have a history of advocacy on earthquake claims; and
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends clause 55 of the Canterbury Earthquakes Insurance Tribunal Bill. This SOP guarantees that only suitably qualified professionals with legal or arbitration experience can be appointed as members of the tribunal.
