Social Assistance Legislation (Budget 2019 Welfare Package) Amendment Bill

Proposed amendment

Hon Louise Upston, in Committee, to move the following amendment:

Clause 2

In clause 2, after subclause (2) (page 3, line 9), insert:

Despite subsection (1), section 8 (mandatory annual average weekly earnings adjustment of rates of main benefits) comes into force on 1 July 2019.

Explanatory note

This Supplementary Order Paper amends clause 2 of the Social Assistance Legislation (Budget 2019 Welfare Package) Amendment Bill. It seeks to ensure that benefit adjustments in this Bill come into effect as soon as possible. This is in line with the overarching aim of this bill to increase the incomes of low-income individuals and families and to support a sustained reduction in child poverty.
