Clause 8
After clause 8(3) (page 7, after line 22), insert:
Resolutions of United Nations General Assembly

The Minister must also have regard to relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Russia Sanctions Bill. The effect of the amendment is to require the Minister, before recommending any regulations that impose sanctions, to have regard to relevant resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly. This requirement is in addition to other matters of which the Minister must be satisfied before recommending such regulations. This amendment supports New Zealand’s commitment to multilateralism and principled application of international law.
