Fair Pay Agreements Bill
Proposed amendment
Chris Baillie, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 1
In clause 1, replace “Fair Pay Agreements”
(page 15, line 3) with “Industrial Awards”
.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper amends the Fair Pay Agreements Bill. ACT believes that “fair” is highly subjective. Fair pay agreements go far beyond “pay” to include things like health and safety, training, career development, and so on, across an entire industry. They are hardly “agreements”, when one side is either forced to negotiate against its wishes or is not represented. These are industrial awards and should be named as such. The Bill should be renamed the “Industrial Awards Act 2022”.
