Fair Pay Agreements Bill
Proposed amendment
Jan Logie, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Schedule 1
In Schedule 1, replace Part 1 (page 208, lines 4 to 6) with:
Part 1 Provisions relating to this Act as enacted
1 Review of coverage of Act
(1)
The department must, 3 years after the date of Royal assent, undertake a review of the Act to—
(a)
consider the effect that fair pay agreements have had in sectors where a significant proportion of workers are employees and a significant proportion of workers are engaged under a contract for services; and
(b)
make recommendations on whether the coverage of the Act should be expanded to include workers who are engaged under a contract for services.
(2)
The department must, no later than 4 years after the date of Royal assent, provide the review to the Minister.
(3)
The Minister must, within 60 working days of the day the review is provided to the Minister under subclause (2), present to the House of Representatives—
(a)
the review; and
(b)
a response to the review.
Explanatory note
This Supplementary Order Paper (SOP) amends the Fair Pay Agreements Bill. The Green Party would support broader application of the fair pay agreements to contractors from the outset. This SOP requires a review of coverage for people engaged in work under a contract of services 3 years after the date of Royal assent. This would enable full consideration of the effects of fair pay agreements in sectors where some workers are contractors and some are employees.
