Proposed amendment
Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
New clause 34A
After clause 34 (page 14, after line 17), insert:
34A Section 91 amended (Board of State school must consult about delivery of health curriculum)
(1)
In the heading to section 91, after “State school”, insert “or sponsor of charter school”
(2)
In section 91(1), after “State school”, insert “or the sponsor of a charter school”.
(3)
In section 91(3) and (4)(c), after “board”, insert “or the sponsor”.
(4)
In section 91(4)(b), after “State school”, insert “or charter school”.
Explanatory note
This Amendment Paper amends the Education and Training Amendment Bill. While charter schools may have flexibility around the use of the national curriculum, the health curriculum is a separate consideration. Charter schools should still fulfil the requirements of section 91, irrespective of their adherence to the national curriculum.
