Social Security Amendment Bill
Proposed amendments
Ricardo Menéndez March, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
Clause 15
In clause 15, new section 236A, after subsection (5) (page 17, after line 28), insert:
(5A)
P’s eligibility to receive any temporary additional support under subpart 16 of Part 2 is not affected by the imposition of money management under this section.
In clause 15, new section 236B, after subsection (4) (page 19, after line 36), insert:
(4A)
P’s eligibility to receive any temporary additional support under subpart 16 of Part 2 is not affected by the imposition of community work experience under this section.
Explanatory note
This Amendment Paper amends the Social Security Amendment Bill. It would prevent a beneficiary from losing eligibility for hardship assistance when sanctioned with money management or community work experience. This ensures that these sanctions function as “non-financial” sanctions, and don’t risk people being plunged into poverty due to inadequate incomes and no additional support.
