Social Security Amendment Bill
Proposed amendments
Ricardo Menéndez March, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
Clause 10
In clause 10, new section 183A(1), replace paragraph (b) (page 11, lines 10 to 14) with:
(b)
the request for financial assistance for P is not—
(i)
a request for the regrant under section 336 of a specified benefit (as defined in section 331) that is—
(A)
jobseeker support; or
(B)
sole parent support; or
(ii)
a request for the grant of sole parent support where the youngest dependent child is under the age of 3 years at the time of the request; and
In clause 10, new section 183A, after subsection (1) (page 11, after line 22), insert:
(1A)
If subsection (1)(b)(ii) applies, this section also applies from the date that the youngest dependent child turns 3 if P is still in receipt of sole parent support at that date.
Explanatory note
This Amendment Paper amends the Social Security Amendment Bill. It would exclude sole parent support recipients who have children under 3 years old from requirements to complete a jobseeker profile. These people are only required to prepare for work, rather than look for part-time work, and the jobseeker profile requirement is therefore excessive for them.
