Amendment Paper
Social Security Amendment Bill
Proposed amendment
Ricardo Menéndez March, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 54
In clause 54(1), new paragraph (id) of section 418(1), after “section 236B(4)(b)(ii))” (page 47, line 33), insert “, provided that the minimum number of hours per week does not exceed 5 hours and the minimum number of weeks does not exceed 4 weeks”.
Explanatory note
This Amendment Paper amends the Social Security Amendment Bill to limit the regulation-making power that prescribes the number of minimum hours per week and the minimum number of weeks for community work experience so that they cannot exceed 5 hours per week and 4 weeks. This would ensure that the Minister cannot set excessively high obligations for community work experience that are practically unfeasible and difficult for the sanctioned beneficiary to comply with.
