Education and Training (Vocational Education and Training System) Amendment Bill

Proposed amendment

Francisco Hernandez, in Committee, to move the following amendment:

Clause 22

In clause 22, new section 317, after paragraph (a) (page 12, after line 24), insert:

(aa)

either—

(i)

at least 1 member who—

(A)

is a permanent member of the teaching or general staff of the polytechnic; and

(B)

has been elected by the permanent members of the teaching and general staff of the polytechnic as their representative; or

(ii)

both—

(A)

at least 1 member who is a permanent member of the teaching staff of the polytechnic, and who has been elected by the permanent members of the teaching staff of the polytechnic as their representative; and

(B)

at least 1 member who is a permanent member of the general staff of the polytechnic, and who has been elected by the permanent members of the general staff of the polytechnic as their representative; and

(ab)

at least 1 member who—

(i)

is a student who is enrolled at the polytechnic; and

(ii)

has been elected by the students of the polytechnic as their representative; and

Explanatory note

This Amendment Paper amends the Education and Training (Vocational Education and Training System) Amendment Bill. We believe that—similarly to the university councils that govern universities—polytechnic councils should have provisions for guaranteed staff and student representation.
