Proposed amendment
Francisco Hernandez, in Committee, to move the following amendment:
Clause 23
In clause 23, new section 362, after subsection (1) (page 31, after line 31), insert:
(1A)
The Minister—
(a)
must make a recommendation under subsection (1) to establish an industry skills board for each of the following specified industries:
(i)
automotive, transport, and logistics:
(ii)
construction and specialist trades:
(iii)
food and fibre (including aquaculture):
(iv)
infrastructure:
(v)
manufacturing and engineering:
(vi)
services:
(vii)
health and community:
(viii)
electrotechnology and information technology:
(ix)
arts and creative:
(b)
may make a recommendation under subsection (1) to establish an industry skills board for any other specified industry.
Explanatory note
This Amendment Paper amends the Education and Training (Vocational Education and Training System) Amendment Bill.
The Government currently intends to establish industry skills boards for just the first eight industries, excluding the arts and creative sector from leading industry skills training. There must be a dedicated space for the creative industry to exercise its role as one of New Zealand’s top exports and biggest employers.
