Proposed amendments
Francisco Hernandez, in Committee, to move the following amendments:
Clause 22
In clause 22, new section 339(2), replace paragraph (b) (page 20, lines 25 and 26) with:
(b)
have confirmation from the polytechnic being considered for designation as a federation polytechnic that it has given its consent to the designation; and
In clause 22, new section 339(6), replace paragraph (a) (page 21, lines 11 and 12) with:
(a)
have confirmation from the polytechnic whose designation is being considered for removal that it has given its consent to the designation being removed; and
Explanatory note
This Amendment Paper amends the Education and Training (Vocational Education and Training System) Amendment Bill.
Otago is being designated as a federation polytechnic, despite Otago’s stronger financial position and a lack of engagement from the Government. This amendment would require a polytechnic to opt in or opt out of the federation model, to ensure it is in the best interests of the independent polytechnic.
