Proposed amendment

Steve Abel, in Committee, to move the following amendment:

Schedule 2

In Schedule 2, new Schedule 3, regulation 25(1), replace the formula with:

a = 0.072 × b0.67

Explanatory note

This Amendment Paper amends the Animal Welfare (Regulations for Management of Pigs) Amendment Bill.

A minority of National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee members recommended a “best practice” space allowance for grower pigs equivalent to a k value1 of 0.072.

1 The constant (k) used when calculating the area for static space allowance for pigs.
