Proposed amendments

Steve Abel, in Committee, to move the following amendments:

Schedule 2

In Schedule 2, new Schedule 3, regulation 26(4)(a), replace “$3,000” (page 8, line 18) with “$4,000”.

In Schedule 2, new Schedule 3, regulation 26(4)(b), replace “$15,000” (page 8, line 19) with “$19,500”.

Explanatory note

This Amendment Paper amends the Animal Welfare (Regulations for Management of Pigs) Amendment Bill.

The fines upon conviction for non-compliance with the farrowing regulations have not been updated at least since the Animal Welfare (Care and Procedures) Regulations 2018 were introduced.

This amendment increases the fines for failing to comply with farrowing regulations in line with recent inflation.
