Pursuant to section 3(2) of the Rates Rebate Act 1973, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

Order

1 Title and commencement
  • (1) This order may be cited as the Rates Rebate Order 1982.

    (2) This order shall come into force on the 14th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

2 Initial contribution
  • Section 3(1) of the Rates Rebate Act 1973 (as substituted by section 3(1) of the Rates Rebate Amendment Act 1978 and amended by the Rates Rebate Order 19811) is hereby amended by omitting from paragraph (a)(i) the expression $120, and substituting the expression $160.

3 Application to previous rating years
  • Where any application is made for a rebate of any rates payable for a rating year that ended before the date on which this order comes into force, the ratepayer's entitlement to a rebate and the amount of the rebate shall be determined as if this order had not been made.

    Section 4: revoked, on 30 May 1985, by clause 4 of the Rates Rebate Order 1985 (SR 1985/98).

Explanatory note

This note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general effect.

This order increases, from $120 to $160, the amount of rates to be met by an applicant before he is entitled to a rebate under the Rates Rebate Act 1973.

The order does not apply to any rating year that ended before the order comes into force.
