These regulations are administered in the Department of Social Welfare.
Pursuant to section 447 of the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families Act 1989, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting on the advice and with the consent of the Executive Council, makes the following regulations.

(1) These regulations are the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families (Residential Care) Amendment Regulations 2000.
(2) In these regulations, the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families (Residential Care) Regulations 19961 are called “the principal regulations”.

These regulations come into force on 20 October 2000.
Regulation 2 of the principal regulations is amended by revoking the definition of internal examination.
Regulation 7(1) of the principal regulations is amended by omitting the expression “regulations 41 and 42 of these regulations”, and substituting the expression “regulation 41”.

Regulation 9(2) of the principal regulations is amended by omitting the expression “or regulation 42(5)”.

Regulation 42 of the principal regulations is revoked.
Regulation 45 of the principal regulations is amended—
(a) by omitting from subclause (1) the expression “or regulation 42”; and
“or regulation 42”
(b) by revoking subclause (2)(c).
Regulation 54(2)(f) of the principal regulations is amended by omitting the expression “or regulation 42(6)”.

This note is not part of the regulations, but is intended to indicate their general effect.
These regulations, which come into force on 20 October 2000, amend the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families (Residential Care) Regulations 1996 by revoking the power to undertake internal examinations of children and young persons in residences established under section 364 of the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families Act 1989.
